The Institute
The European Post is an independent research institute and policy media organisation engaged in the research, analysis and coverage of European policy, diplomacy, and strategic affairs. It is governed by Board of Directors whose conduct is defined by the institute’s founding statutes and the values they enshrine.
The institute does not occupy a position on the spectrum of European political opinion. It holds no brief for any government, institution, commercial interest, or ideological tendency. Its independence is not a posture. It is the structural condition of its credibility and the only basis on which its work can claim the authority it seeks.
The European Post proceeds from a single analytical conviction: that the governance of Europe is among the most consequential political undertakings of the contemporary world, that its quality depends fundamentally on the depth and rigour of public scrutiny applied to it and that the distance between European institutions and the citizens whose lives they shape represents a democratic deficit of the first order – One that rigorous, independent, research-based journalism and analysis, uniquely positioned to address.
The reporting and analysis this institute produces is not conventional journalistic task, instead It is policy-driven inquiry conducted through the instruments of institutional media — disciplined, evidence-based, and oriented not toward the production of news for its own sake but toward the advancement of informed public understanding and the stimulation of substantive debate between citizens, practitioners, and the institutions of European governance. The distinction matters. It defines what The European Post is, what it produces, and what it refuses to become.
Purpose and Mandate
Democratic governance requires, as a structural precondition, an informed citizenry capable of interrogating the decisions made in its name. In the European context, where the complexity of institutional architecture, the multiplicity of national political cultures and the distance between decision-making and democratic accountability are simultaneously features of the system’s ambition and sources of its legitimacy deficit. This precondition is incompletely met and ‘The European Post’ is established in the recognition of this fact and in the conviction that it is addressable.
The institute’s mandate is to build the public awareness, the analytical infrastructure, and the informed debate that European democratic governance requires. Its reporting serves this mandate as an instrument, not as an end. Its analysis deepens it. Its opinion section extends the boundaries of the conversation it seeks to animate. Its editorial voice gives institutional expression to the judgments that sustained analytical engagement with European affairs produces.
The scope of this mandate extends beyond the internal affairs of the European Union. Europe’s engagement with the world, its strategic relationships, trade architecture, climate commitments, security posture, and its role in the governance of the international order — is inseparable from the quality of its internal governance and from the democratic legitimacy that sustains it. The European Post regards this external dimension as integral to its analytical mandate, not supplementary to it.
The Publication
The analytical and publishing work of The European Post is organised across four functions. Each is governed by standards from which the institute does not deviate. Each serves the institute’s mandate in a distinct and irreducible way.
Bulletin
The daily institutional record of European policy, diplomatic, economic, and strategic developments. Factual, attributed and structurally neutral throughout — the research-informed foundation upon which every other dimension of the institute’s work rests. The Bulletin is the primary instrument through which The European Post discharges its obligation to the daily public record of European affairs.
Research and Analysis
The structured analytical examination of current European developments — their policy implications, strategic trajectories, institutional significance, and the geopolitical context. Produced by senior analysts and fellows whose work is subject to the full rigour of applied policy research methodology. Research and Analysis does not record events. It interrogates them, situates them within their determinative context, and draws from them the analytical conclusions that the public record alone cannot provide.
Opinion
Contributions from a carefully curated body of senior policy experts, former officials, legal scholars, economists, and international practitioners whose engagement with the institute addresses is substantive, independent, and professionally grounded. Opinion at The European Post is not commentary. It is considered analytical argument from identified individuals whose expertise entitles them to be heard and whose accountability to that expertise is made transparent by full attribution on every piece they publish.
Editorial
The institutional voice of The European Post, published without individual attribution every Monday. It is the considered perspective of the institute on a matter of current European or international strategic significance — reached through deliberation, grounded in evidence, measured in register and representative of the analytical standards that govern the institute’s work in its entirety. It does not advocate. It does not adjudicate partisan disputes. It exercises the analytical function of a research institution at the level of institutional speech.
